Outcome measuresThe following parameters were assessed before and atthe end of the study period in both groups: medicationregimen, body weight, waist circumference, morningsystolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP/DBP) andresting heart rate (HR) after 5 min of rest as well asfasting venous glucose and total cholesterol (TC) concentration. Body weight and waist circumference weremeasured on subjects wearing bra and panties/underwear only with the same study equipment (electronicscale – WE 150, Mensor, Warsaw, Poland and a standard centimetre tape, respectively). SBP/DBP and HRwere measured manually. Resting HR was assessedmanually by pulse assessment on the radial arteryover a 1 min period. Resting blood pressure wascalculated as a mean of two measurements separatedby 1 min with a manual clock-type sphygmomanometer (Tech-Med, Warsaw, Poland) and averaged to5 mmHg. The same study equipment was used in allsubjects. All laboratory tests were performed in thecertified local lab using the same equipment.
