In all cases, honeydew excretion in control treatments reached similar or higher excretion levels compared to preconditioned control insects, suggesting that adult whiteflflies resumed back to normal phloem feeding activity soon after release in the Petri dish. The same was observed for the surviving insects in thiamethoxam treatment (only for 0 DAT and 4 DAT intervals). In contrast, insects on flflupyradifurone-treated leaves showed a strong suppression of honeydew excretion during the 3 h monitoring period even 21 DAT, suggesting quick feeding cessation and thus inhibition of virus transmission even in the absence of knockdown effiffifficacy.
