Similar results were found in a survey conducted in India, where most mothers who received counselling in the prenatal started breastfeeding soon after the birth of their child, when compared with those who did not participate in this intervention (Dhandapanyet al. 2008). Consequently, it can be seen that prenatal counselling helps motivate women to start breastfeeding immediately after birth and maintain exclusive breastfeeding in the baby’s first six months.
