The Cutometer is a non-invasive measurement device that can determine the viscoelastic properties of human skin by a suction method, and has been used for studies on both normal and diseased skin (4). It consists of a hand-held cylindrical probe with an opening of 2-mm. An electrically controlled vacuum lifts a portion of the skin into the cylinder and an optical system measures the height (in millimeters) of the skin pulled inside the cylinder (5). The Cutometer takes measurements based on the principle of suction elongation, by means of an optical measuring unit.
