AUTOGENIC RELAXATIONAutogenic means self-generated. With this technique, relaxation is brought about through concentration on preselected words and phrases. The focus is often on the heaviness of the limbs, the warmth of the body, the coolness of the forehead, or heart and breathing regulation. Verbal cues may include “slow the breathing with deep, full breaths” or “allow the feet and calves to feel heavy and sink into the floor.”
