Abstract.Thefieldofenergyharvestinghasgrownconcurrentlywiththerapiddevelopmentofportableandwirelesselectronicsinwhichreliableandlong-lastingpowersourcesarerequired.Electrochemicalbatterieshavealimitedlifespanandrequireperiodicalrecharging.Incontrast,vibrationenergyharvesterscansupplyuninterruptedpowerbyscavengingusefulelectricalenergyfromambientstructuralvibrations.Thisarticlereviewsthecurrentstateofvibrationenergyharvestersbasedonmagnetostrictivematerials,especiallyTerfenol-DandGalfenol.Existingmagnetostrictiveharvesterdesignsarecomparedintermsofvariousperformancemetrics.Advancedtechniquesthatcanreducedevicesizeandimproveperformancearepresented.Modelsformagnetostrictivedevicesaresummarizedtoguidefutureharvesterdesigns.
