For the research the target group of secretaries was not well qualified (63.63% had fewer than four GCSE passes at Grace C or above), which compared favourably with the secretaries in work, but the trend in recent years has been to more qualifications; therefore, they were certainly not high flyers. Nor were the lecturers necessarily abreast of current developments in the secretarial field;for instance,they had mastered new software developments, but their office experience was confined to what they had observed whilst visiting students on work experience.
