"Death Poems" is a classic educational film, after the release of more than $235 million in the global box office, becoming the world's fifth-highest-grossing film of the year, won the 62nd Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. One of the inspirations for his screenplay was the real-life experience of author Thomas Schumann at Montgomery Bell College, a men's preparatory school in Nashville, Tennessee. The character of Mr. Keating in the film is inspired by Samuel, an English professor at the University of Connecticut, who was the author's teacher at Montgomery Bell College.
