Other types of consolidation such as nodules or wedge-shaped consolidations have been reported in the human literature in association with neoplasia/fungal disease and pulmonary thromboembolism, respectively, but have not yet been extensively investigated in cats. Nodules often appear as a homogeneous lung consolidation characterized by a smooth semi-circular-like border delineating the region of consolidation from deeper aerated lung. Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) often appears as homogenous wedge-shaped lesions in humans, although other shapes have been described. Air bronchograms are absent with both nodule signs and PTE.
