LETHAL BREATHE-BETTER VODKA
Fve been known to make some potent potions. These home brews are an enjoyable way to have an inexpensive tincture. Here is my recipe for a vodka or brandy that clears your head. I add osha root, gathered from the mountains in New Mexico (but you can buy the dried root in herb shops).
Add about three 3-inch osha roots to a bottle of vodka and let it steep in a cool, dark place for at least three weeks.
Alcohol is by nature heating, so don't use this drink if you have a fever or dry cough. It does not treat a cold, but prevents excess phlegm because it is mildly diaphoretic, and dries wet mucus from lungs and sinuses. (Good for chronic asthma and weakness with pale tongue and wheezing.)
Enjoyed in front of a cheery fire with friends, it offers a delicious way to prevent winter's colds and blahs.
