The stoping method was based on combining several proven technologies to meet the requirements of the Jeanette Project philosophy. The long hole stoping method is based on a resue stoping technique, separating shale from reef on the reef horizon. This method effectively places waste material (Khaki Shale) in mined-out areas which is also defined as stowing. The primary method to remove the shale from the reef is by means of throw blasting, with limited mechanical cleaning of shale into the mined-out areas. This method will effectively reduce reef dilution. Reef, development waste and a percentage of shale tonnes (percentage dependant on the Khaki Shale thickness and/or stoping width) will be the only tonnes transported from the reef horizon. The material stowed and hoisted from the reef horizon is illustrated in the figure below.
