For the reader to get an immediate crack at a simple transi-tional experience, I suggest this experiment. As you continue to read, alter your focus slightly by not only attending to the present word but also simultaneously anticipating the next one. Nextness is the key angle. You are always in between and always moving. Notice whether it makes a difference in your reading experience when you consciously lean into nextness. You will probably have tapped into a reservoir of your energy, creating alertness, excitement and fluidity.Leaning forward might also have cost you a measure of comprehen-sion,particularly if you have moved ahead more quickly than you can readily coordinate. If you have already been accustomed to focusing on the transitional, it is probably easier, many people already do this spontaneously, actively anticipating nextness.
