My first experience of advertising came before I
started primary school. I remember clearly the afternoons spent watching cartoons on YV,and the intervals between them. I was attracted to the
advertisements for the typical products that children use at school, like pencil cases, schoolbags, and ex-
ercise books. Television made these things so beautiful that I couldn't wait to start school and use them every day. At that time, I was absorbed in advertising and I trusted advertising.
When I grew up,my relationship with advertising changed a lot. I became more obvious of the different types of visual effects that advertisements use and the different ways of trying to sell
their products.I came to realize that many advertisementson TV or in inmagazines were exaggerated (夸张的) and untrue.
My latest memory about advertising is from two days ago. I was driving to the university when something attracted my attention. In a parking space on the
street there was a pickup truck trading a new line of sunglasses. The sellers used a computer on which a boring advertisement of the sunglasses was being played. At the same time, some men were trying to persuad peopleto try on the glasses. In fact, it had a strange
shape. My impression was that the scene was not only surprising but also a lttle bothersome, to tell the truth!
What kind of advertising will we see in the future if we go on in this way? It's terrible!
One thing is for sure: if I manage to become an advertising writer, a commercial artist, or something like that, I'll try to change the whole idea of
advertising and the ways it reaches out to people. I think advertisements should aim at being more informative and straightforward. They should also appeal to people's emotions and desires
