The main structure of Dujiangyan is a river segmentation system consisting of three artificial dams and a buffer zone, which divides the Weijiang River three times. As shown in the figure, the first division is located in the mouth of the fish, the river is divided into external and internal, the location and creation of the dam in line with the principle of concave erosion in the hydrology, convex bank accumulation, while taking into account the flow rate difference between the inner and outer rivers will lead to sedimentation of the inner river, thus deepening the riverbed of the inner river, to prevent siltriver accumulation to ensure water stability. The second segment is located in Feishayan, from the inner river in the secondary division, because the river is narrow, the flow rate slows down, the sediment will be deposited here, forming a buffer zone. As a result, the riverbed rises in the buffer zone, which prevents the flow of water into the outer rivers during the dry season, while rising water levels in floods take away the sediment from the buffer zone, and the riverbed deepens and accelerates drainage. The low three segments are located at the mouth of the bottle, which takes eight years to manually cut the rock to form a more robust waterway, and due to the first two segments, the amount of water entering the bottle mouth will remain relatively stable, thus achieving adequate irrigation and domestic water throughout the year.
