The bird is housed in a wire-mesh cage(B) which rests on a tray (C) with sides about 10 cm. deep. There is sufficient room for a small circulating fan (D), a thermostatically (E)-controlled 100 watt light globe (F), a feeder (G) and watercontainer (H). Thermometers (J) and a wetbulb hygrometer (K) are located at various sites on the cage. Oxygen is provided by a small 200 1. capacity cylinder(L) fitted with a regulator and a reducing valve (M). Chamber air is circulated by a diaphram pump (N) fitted with an electronic motor speed control (P), passing successively through glass wool (R), and 1 1. flask containing 40% (W./V.)potassium hydroxide(S) and a moisture absorption train containing about 2 kg. of calcium chloride (T)before returning to the chamber.
