STJLR.51.5392-A5 Part Suffix Identifier Code XE3.5.1 This specification covers the requirements for a non-metallic sealer material applied to the bearing surface of fasteners. The applied material provides a seal between the fastener bearing surface and the mating component.3.5.2 Caution: For applications which require retention of clamping force a dimensioned print is required.3.5.3 NOTE: These materials may be specified on fasteners that have multiple stage finishing processes. In some cases it may be advantageous to apply the sealer material prior to subsequent finishing processes. The processing route shall be agreed between the fastener maker, surface finisher and sealer applicator to meet the Jaguar and Land Rover requirements.3.5.4 Sealer Dimensions: Fasteners shall have sealer compound applied to the bearing face of the fastener. Material on the shank, last threads and under head radius is permitted. The dimensions of the sealer shall be the responsibility of the sealer applicator providing the desired sealing performance is met.3.5.5 Initial Approval of Sealer Compounds and New Suppliers.3.5.5.1 Preparation of Test Assemblies: Using M16 x 1.5 6g Headed plugs with a surface finish in accordance with SJ37 (STJLR.50.5020.X100) that have sealer compound, taken from production batches, applied to the under head must be screwed into a suitable vessel capable of being pressurised to 4 bar minimum for the test duration. The thread in the pressure vessel shall be un-plated, clean and dry to a 6H tolerance. A torque of 30 Nm ± 2 Nm shall be applied to the plug.3.5.5.2 Test Method: Fill the test assemblies with the test fluid specified below add a fluorescent dye. After subjecting the test assemblies to the specified test conditions there must be no evidence of leakage under ultra-violet light.3.5.5.3 Water/Antifreeze Resistance: Antifreeze to STJLR.03.5001 diluted to 40% with water. The test period shall be 5 hours at 120 °C ± 2 °C with the test assembly pressurised to 2 bar.3.5.5.4 Oil Resistance: Oil to SAE 10W30 or equivalent for 5 hours at 160 ± 2 °C with the test assembly pressurised to 4 bar.3.5.5.5 Fuel Resistance: ASTM Fuel C + 15% Methanol for 5 hours at ambient temperature with the test assembly pressurised to 4 bar.3.5.5.6 Automatic Transmission Fluid Resistance: Current factory fill Automatic transmission fluid for 5 hours at 120 °C ± 5 °C with the test assembly pressurised to 4 bar.
