In recent years, the impacts of untreated hearing loss have become an increasingly larger part of public conversation around health and wellness. Evidence to suggest that untreated hearing loss may be a predictor of accelerated cognitive decline has emerged. We have also learned that untreated hearing loss may precipitate poorer academic performance, reduced quality of life, decreased social engagement, and increased fatigue. Although we cannot draw direct ties between the treatment of hearing loss and mitigation of these conditions, proactive management of hearing loss is associated with clear benefi ts to the individual with very few contraindications.
