1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this procedure is to define the necessary steps for qualifying a source for electroplating.

2.0 SCOPE

This procedure applies to all Andrew connector-manufacturing locations.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITY

5.1 It is a shared responsibility of the Business Unit Manager, the local Manufacturing Manager and the Quality Manager for the following:

5.1.1 Identify potential sources of the electroplating process.

5.1.2 To develop teams for supplier visits and surveys.

5.1.3 Coordinate the completion of all 1st article samples testing.

5.1.4 To select the best source utilizing the information gathered by the team during the audit and qualification process, following procedure 74AC02

6.0 PROCEDURE

6.1 Conduct a source search using available resources (Existing sources, Internet, Industrial Purchasing guide, Thomas Register, Customers, etc.).

6.2 Team conducts visits and surveys potential sources, as located in 6.1. Usually cross-functional in nature - Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Purchasing.

6.3Once potential sources have been defined (or narrowed) from the 2 steps above, part qualification can begin. Qualification should be done by connector family size, and also by process type (Barrel or Rack). Sizes for qualification testing should be based on product that will be manufactured at particular location.
