In the system of road, the strength and stability of subgrade surface are closely related to water. There are many kinds of subgrade and pavement diseases, the reason is that there are many factors that cause the diseases, but the role of water is one of the main factors. Therefore, in the design, construction and maintenance of subgrade and pavement, great attention must be paid to the drainage engineering of subgrade and pavement. Due to the influence of water source on the underground pavement and subgrade, the water flow is roughly divided into water and groundwater, and the corresponding subgrade drainage is divided into underground drainage and groundwater. Surface water includes atmospheric precipitation (rain and snow), sea, river, lake, canal and reservoir. The surface water can wash and permeate the roadbed, destroy the stability of the whole roadbed, and may cause the phenomenon of hydrogen bomb. The infiltration of water into the subgrade soil makes the soil moist and reduces the secondary strength. The harmful degree of groundwater varies according to the conditions of upper water, groundwater and interlayer water. In severe cases, freezing, collapse of sloping or inclined planes, or sliding of the entire Subgrade along the sloping bottom occurs. Subgrade works mixed with expansive soil may be damaged. The harm to the paving water can be expressed as reducing the strength of the paving material, making the concrete joint and the soil beside the road produce. Due to the cleaning of sludge and high-pressure water caused by the moving load, the loading capacity of the paving base is reduced. In frozen areas, water during melting causes an overall decrease in load capacity.<br>
