Every part of a product, including all relating documentation and any item that the project decides to include.Note 1: Configuration Items may vary widely in complexity, size and type. A list of Configuration Items (CIL) may include deliverables other than parts - such as Manuals, Plans, Requirements, Parts Lists, Specifications, Drawings, work instructions and other Technical Documents. For products, Configuration Items do not only include the serialized parts, but every item in the BOM, including software. The CM Plan defines the different levels of traceability to different subsets of Configuration Items, e.g. the ones that are identified by serial numbers. For projects, Configuration Items include anything the project decides to put under configuration control, such as software source code, SW Tools, design documentation and plans. The CM Plan includes the CIL.Note 2: Configuration Item definition in this directive covers a wider scope than in ISO 10007 where it is limited to the product configuration. Product Configuration information in the sense of ISO 10007 is a subset of Configuration Items in the sense of this directive.
