LESSON TWOMAJOR EQUIPMENT & INSTRUMENTATIONThis lesson identifies, by number, a simple description of each piece of equipment, its purpose, an explanation of each of the process control schemes, alarms for maintaining operating parameters, and pertinent manual controls (hand switches). The alarm system will alert operating personnel of current or impending upset conditions related to temperature, pressure, flow, level or mechanical and human error and are designed to give the operator enough time for corrective action. (Interlock sequences used to protect the equipment in the event of uncontrolled conditions will be discussed in a separate section).EQUIPMENT TAG# DISCRIPTION OF EQUIPMENT/ACTIONOIL SYSTEM (PID13)OIL DRUM D131 The oil drum is used to store oil that is used in the preparation of the Catalyst Mud. The vessel is equipped with an agitator. A steam coil is provided for heating purposes. D131 has an operating pressure of _____ barg. The capacity of this vessel is _______ M3. OIL DRUM MIXER A131 The mixer (agitator) is driven by an electric motor. It stirs the oil in the drum. The speed of A131 is 900 RPM's. .OIL DRUM NITROGEN SPARGER Z131 Oxygen and water are removed from the oil in D131 by bubbling nitrogen through Z131.OIL LOADING PUMP P131 The pump is driven by an electric motor and used to pump oil to the mixing drum. It also circulates the contents of the drum to assist in the removal of moisture. Its design flow rate is ________m3/hr.OIL FILTER F131 The Filter is located in the line from the oil pump to the mixing drum. It is designed to remove dirt particles from the oil. The Filter has a reusable metal cartridge. The element is 10 micron. The Filter housing is electrically traced and insulated to help maintain the temperature. THE TEMPERATURE IN D131 is controlled by adding low pressure steam to the jacket. TICA-________ is a board mounted controller with a range of 0C to 150C and a setpoint of 100 C. High alarm set point is 1200 C. Low alarm set point 600C. The TICA regulates the steam supply to the oil drum jacket based on the oil temperature in the drum.LOW PRESSURE NITROGEN TO Z131 The flow of low pressure nitrogen to the sparger of D131 is controlled by flow orifice FO-135. It has a design flow of 20 kg/hr.LOW PRESSURE NITROGEN TO D131 The flow of low pressure nitrogen to the vent line of D131 is controlled by FIC-________. This is a local rotameter with a flow range of 0 to 0.2 kg/hr. The flow of this nitrogen keeps an inert atmosphere in the tank.
