Subsequently, the miniplates are first fixated to the proximal segment of the mandible. Second, the proximal segment of the mandible is seated in the terminal hinge position with the application of a posterior–superior vector force (i.e., bivector seating of the condyles) whereupon the miniplates are fixed to the distal segment of the mandible. The same procedure is completed on the contralateral side whereafter the jaws are unwired. It is examined if the occlusion is even and passive into the dental splint. If not, the screw fixation is removed from the distal segment of the mandible and the process of fixation is repeated. When the proper repositioning of the mandible has been obtained, the procedure is continued with the Le Fort 1 osteotomy.
