1.3 OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY DURING MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR WORKS1.3.1 GeneralMaintenance and repair works at the paper mill are very prone to accidents. Conditions during repair work are very often unfavorable. A machine or device must be repaired and production started as soon as possible. Sufficient attention is not necessarily paid to occupational safety due to rush. The occupational safety and fire safety instructions of the paper mill must be obeyed. Prior to starting the repair work at the machine, make sure of at least the following things.• Repair work must be agreed between the maintenance personnel and operating personnel. A situation that the maintenance personnel is carrying out repair work and production is uninformed about it is very dangerous.• Repair work must be done with suitable plates.• Interlockings and precautionary measures prior to starting of the maintenance must be carried out carefully.• Lock moving parts mechanically.Safety lockings• Lock the MCC supply with a padlock or by some other corresponding manner.• Turn off the hydraulic pumps with MCC supplyswitches as above or close the hydraulic circuit with manual valves if possible. Make sure that no pressure is left in the hoses and pipes prior to opening any connections. Check all connections and valves prior to switching the pressure again.• Turn off the pneumatic circuits you are working with and make sure that there is no pressure left in the line.
