Industry solutions and products have traditionally focused on controlling the “process” in order to deliver the product. But as the agility in the market changes, “new product introductions” are increasing, and product lifetimes are shortened and becoming individualized, even to a point where they are defined per order or customer. This is driving the operational world towards “controlling the product/ order” versus controlling the process, as the process control relies on the dedicated process control system, which in recent years is standard in the plants. Hence the “product/order” is required to be “self-aware” of its necessary timing and quality attributes to satisfy the order/customer.
