Washing is completed when the effluent from the drain outlets is clear and the analysis of samples shows that only very slight traces of salt are contained in the drains. Samples for determining the salt content in the condensate should be taken at intervals from 15 to 30 min. If, after a certain washing period, the salt content in the condensate samples obtained during a period of more than 30 min. remains constant the wash steam temperature is in- creased by a few degrees. A few minutes later another sample is taken if its analysis shows that the values remained unchanged, washing can be stopped. Washing can be expected to take 3 to 5 hours.
