1)The mass flow of phenolic water fed multiplied by the phenol concentration gives the mass flow of phenol entering the OEC. The circulating cumene solvent must remove this same mass of phenol. The phenol concentration of the OEC bottom will increase if less phenol is removed. The caustic fed to the SCWC must remove this same amount of phenol from the cumene solvent coming from the OEC. The phenol concentration of the solvent returning to the OEC will increase if this phenol is not removed. A higher phenol content of the feed solvent will make it more difficult for the OEC to meet its waste water specification.
