Interconversion is necessary because nanoindentation tests are performed in the time domain, whereas complex modulus mastercurves are generally presented in the frequency domain. Frequency is commonly used as a convenient surrogate for temperature, although greater emphasis is placed on temperature considerations for the intrinsic understanding of material response.
