Although infrared detectors have been used as early as the 19th century, and have been used for military purposes during the first World War, it is only after the PbS detector was used during the second world war that the infrared detector technology has been widely valued and developed rapidly. New detector materials have been developed continuously. The response band of the detector soon covers three air windows: 1-3um, 3-5um and 8-12um. At the same time, the continuous improvement of detector material quality makes the performance of the detector constantly improved, which promotes the overall development of infrared technology.
