Abstract: The most important factor affecting the treatment efficiency of wastewater activated sludge method is sludge activity, and the detection process of traditional sludge detection index is cumbersome and lags behind, so a new sludge detection method is used in this topic, that is, light deflethation method for experimental research. In this study, the microorganisms in the PVA gel ball-rich activated sludge were used as an auxiliary tool to detect light deflection caused by microbial metabolism in the sludge, and the light deflection distance of the PVA gel ball was measured by the spot analyzer to show the sludge activity. Through pre-experiment to verify its feasibility, and then applied to intermittent activated sludge method, it is found that the concentration gradient produced by organic matter and bio-metabolism in pre-experiment can trigger light deflegment, which is also applicable to activated sludge. In the SBR activated sludge method and the fully mixed aeration active sludge method, by controlling the aeration amount and other single factors, it is found that the CODcr removal rate and the light deflecation of the PVA gel ball show a certain correspondence system, which indicates that the light deflease can reflect the change of sludge activity caused by these factors to a certain extent. Using PVA gel ball as an auxiliary tool to measure light deflection can objectively reflect the metabolic state of microbial growth in the active sludge system. To sum up, the light deflection method can reflect the metabolic state of microorganisms in the activated sludge of printing and dyeing wastewater to a certain extent, so the light deflection method can express sludge activity to a certain extent.
