Frame rateThe frame rate is an indication of the number ofimages that can be captured per second. It is indicatedin frames per second (fps) and depends onthe speed of the computer, exposure time, andthe chip’s readout time. The chip’s readout timeis defined as the period of time from when thecharge released by the chip is read out to whenthe chip is once again ready to capture light. Bothpixel size and number play an important rolewhen it comes to frame rate. Larger pixelsrequire shorter exposure times and – becausethere are fewer of them on the chip – have shorterreadout times.
