Moisturizers are key components in basic skin care, especially in cases of alteration of the epidermal barrier and reduced water content in the epidermis. They are used to restore the barrier functions of the epidermis, cover tiny cracks in the skin, provide a soothing protective film, and increase the water-content of the epidermis. They slow evaporation of the skin moisture, maintaining hydration and improving the appearance and tactile properties of dry and aging skin. Moisturizers play a role in treating and augmenting therapy for the aging face. The predominant form of delivery is cosmetic emulsion. Most products are creams (water in oil emulsions) or lotions (oil in water emulsions)which are used to deliver and stabilize some active ingredients (1). But water in oil types of emulsion are frequently used because of their ease of application, restriction of water evaporation from the skin surface and emollient action (2)
