At present, bitumen is easy to graphitized raw materials, and in order to improve the performance of carbon foam, such as heat conduction and electrical conductivity, people turn the focus of carbon foam precursor to asphalt. The discovery of bitumen has laid a solid material foundation for people to manufacture various high-performance carbon materials at low cost. In 1992, Hager of the US Air Force materials laboratory first used mesophase pitch as precursor to prepare carbon foams through foaming technology. The method is to inflate the mesophase pitch under high pressure and then pre oxidation, then carbonization and graphitization.
