In last years, a little, but important literature about school attachment has been evolving. Severalinvestigations revealed that there was a relationship between school belongingness or attachment andpositive academic, psychological and behavioral consequences during adolescence. There is a consensuson the view that perceived school belongingness is a fundamental need, and when this need is satisfied,positive consequences appear (Anderman, 2002). School attachment is an important concept ineducational studies because it is an evidence for quality of school experiences at personal level, andlevel of adjustment at school. This concept is multifaceted; it encompasses satisfaction from school life,and emotional bonding and sense of belongingness (Ueno, 2009). Blum (2005) asserts that studentsshould develop belongingness to school in order to be successful. There are different terms used toconstrue school attachment. Some researchers prefer using “school engagement”, some of them prefer“school attachment” and others prefer “school bonding”. Because of the fact that researchers fromdifferent fields such as education, health, psychology and sociology, these terms become moreconfusing. Even though different terms have been used in different fields, all of them address the sameconstruct (Blum, 2005).
