All structural steel shall be suitable for repair by field welding and should be high quality standard steel. If connection to the head block is by means of twist locks or similar type fittings, the load bearing surface upon which the head block twist locks bear shall be high tensile steel with hardness of HB 260. The high tensile steel plate must possess good welding properties to facilitate site repair and replacement. The two telescopic beam units should run on high-density plastic parts to ensure low friction and a smooth movement while telescoping. The pads should be readily removable without removing the telescopic beams. The telescopic function of the spreader shall be operated through hydraulic motors and super grade (extra heavy series) one and a half inch (1.5 pitch) no. 120 roller chains. Spring absorber shall be provided at the ends of the chains to absorb any shock loads transmitted to the telescopic beams. The end connection of the chain must be designed that the end link can not break off easily. Limit switches to detect 20 ft, 40 ft, and 45 ft positions shall be installed on the main frame adjacent to the telescopic beams. Rotary limit switches are not acceptable. The telescopic beams must be guided by robust sliding pads that can withstand the impact transmitted to the telescopic beams during container handling operations. Telescopic action during hoisting and trolley motion under no load condition shall be made possible. Stoppers to limit the telescopic action at 20 ft and 45 feet positions shall also be provided. 40ft stop position will be by proximity sensors. Communication between the spreader and the crane will be by an approved open 2 wire system included in the spreader cable. This open two wires system must be supported by wide range of major OEM Electrical and Electronic manufacturers. This spreader shall be capable to transfer digitall data as well as positional information to the crane’s control system and shall include all diagnostic information for use in the crane management system. No “black box” or proprietary system shall be accepted in the crane.Electrical connection between the head block and spreader shall be Via a plug and socket. Socket on the spreader and plug from the head frame. Lifting lugs for handling overheight containers, one at each corner of the telescopic spreader, shall be provided. The lugs shall be positioned in between the twist lock pins on the under side of the end beams. The hole diameter of the lug shall be 50 mm. Each lug shall have a minimum lifting capacity of 10 tonnes. Detail of the lug position will be given to the successful bidder. The twistlocks, flippers and telescopic (extend/retract) motions shall be hydraulically operated. The hydraulic system shall be capable of continuous operation without overheating. Baffle plates shall be incorporated in hydraulic tank. The hydraulic oil used shall be Daphane AW46-S or equivalent. Hydraulic system working pressure shall be kept below 110 kg/sq cm. Tapping points with shut off valves and quick couplings shall be provided at all pressure setting points for measurement of the line pressure. Flexible hydraulic hoses shall be used throughout the spreader. Hydraulic hoses shall be protected form damage due to abrasion and impact by external objects.
