Abstract: anthocyanin is an important antioxidant to promote health, which can cause plant organs to show red, purple and blue colors. Although most tomato varieties did not produce anthocyanin, the peel of purple tomato variety Indigo Rose showed anthocyanin accumulation under light. The results showed that Indigo Rose combined the dominant aft site and recessive ATV site from wild tomato, aft encoded an allelic gene, slam2 like, which activated anthocyanin synthesis, while ATV encoded an inactive anthocyanin inhibitory gene, slmybatv; under light conditions, bZIP transcription factor, slhy5, promoted the expression of slam2 like, increased anthocyanin accumulation in the peel and caused the peel to turn purple.
Key words: anthocyanin biosynthesis, purple tomato, MBW complex
