In about 1890, when a Englishman named James Gibb was traveling to the United States, he came across a hollow toy ball made of celluloid, which had strong bounce power. Therefore, he improved the ball a little, and gradually promoted it in Britain and around the world. Perhaps because of the "Ping-Pong" sound of the ball playing around the table, a British sporting goods company first used the word "ping pong" in its advertisement. In this way, table tennis began to get the name of drawing sound.
