Elephants usually seek out and establish one special friendship with another animal who then becomes a boon (6). These best friends are usually pairs of elephants who feel a(n) (7) for one another, but in the case of Tarra at the Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee, that special someone was a dog named Bella. Despite the huge (8) in their sizes and the difference in their (9), the two were kindred souls. They took long walks together, played in the water, and ate and slept together. The most touching illustration of their devotion came during Bella’s (10) in 2009. When the dog suffered a serious injury that kept her (11) and under care in the sanctuary’s second-floor office, Tarra kept standing (12) outside the building every day, knowing that her friend was inside. Once the dog regained her mobility, the two were reunited and (13) their happy relationship. When their eight years together ended with the death of Bella in late October 2011, the Bella Fund was established at the request of both the caregiver staff and a(n) (14) number of supporters. This very fund serves as a(n) (15) fund to honor Bella’s life and her friendship with Tarra — a friendship which brought joy and inspiration to people the world over.
