Assembled as an electrolyzer for overall water splitting, the O-CoMoS heteronanosheets as both the anode and the cathode delivered a current density of 10 mA cm−2 at a quite low cell voltage of 1.6 V. The disordered structure and S-vacancies confined in two-dimensional oxygenated bimetal sulfide nanosheet heterojunctions could provide large electro-chemical active surface area, great number of active sites, exposed active heterointerfaces and enhanced conductivity, thus resulting in the excellent electrocatalytic performance.
