As a result, this region of expanded strong acid conditions surrounding ∼0.4 M NO3− shows an exceptionally high FE, approaching 70% of the current going toward ammonia. Increasing selectivity was feasible for several reasons, some pertaining to the choice of Ti as the electrode material and others involving the electrolyte. For one, the high corrosion resistance of Ti to acidic, basic, and high salinity solution conditions allows for a wide range of conditions to be probed experimentally.
