10.2 The language of the Results sectionThere are several ways of reporting the results. Usually we choose a suitable reporting verb such as "show, indicate, reveal, report, describe, explain, etc.". For example, "The following tables show... " in Example I and "The analysis shows that..." in Example 2 refer to the findings. An important feature of the verb is the present tense form, i.e. "show, shows, etc.". Past tense forms are also used in some other cases where there is reference to results of previous research indicated by "showed" and "had" in Example 3.
