However,global coronary blood flow tends to decreasw due to the reducrtion in myocardial oxygen demand, although flow to the ischemic myocardium may increase. Indications for IABP include low output state (particularly crdiogenic shock, other types of shock such as that due to gram-negative sepsis), unstable angina, postinfarction angina, postinfarction ventricular septalrupture and mitral regurgitation (including preoperative support), intrable ventricular tachycardia, precardiac catheterization in high risk coronary artery disease, weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass, and to provide suport for high risk cardiacpatients for cardiac and noncardiac surgery.
