Submerged plant abundance and composition varied among enclosures, and much of the variation can be summarized by pond. Total submerged cover differed by pond at the beginning and end of the experiment (Fig. 3A). Submerged composition also differed by pond and over time with an interactive effect (Table 2). In pond 13, submerged plants increased to completely fill the enclosures, with a shift over time from sparse to abundantnear-monocultures of P. pusillus/foliosus (Fig. 3).Incontrast, in pond 14, enclosures started with more abundant mixes of four taxa (no P. pusillus/foliosus present), and abundances had little change or lowered (Fig. 3B).
