Fabrication Fabrication StandardsFabrication standards must meet the requirements issued for the contract.These fabrication standards may conform to the appropriate Standards in whole or in part, or may be termed at the Company’s discretion “Good Commercial Standard”.All fabrications or parts thereof which are built to specify to the appropriate Standards shall be subjected to the Inspection Testing criteria of that standard.All documentation shall be provided in accordance with the Construction Products regulations (CPR)These specifications should be read in conjunction with the appropriate Company drawing(s)If in any doubt, Ask (Hydro technical contact)Materials for FabricationThe material type and grade shall be shown on the appropriate Company drawings.All steel used must be free from pitting, laminations, rust, and rippling, particularly on pulled bends.All other materials shall be as shown on the Purchase Order or the drawings, whichever is applicable.For the requirements of welding filler rods and wires see the ‘Welding’ section of this specification.General Fabrication Requirements for Steel ProductsAll fabrications shall as far as is practically possible, be of welded construction throughout using the minimum number of pieces. Where it will be necessary for equipment to be lifted by mechanical means then the sub-contractor shall provide suitable lifting lugs, eyes or other such arrangements. Where such lifting points will detract from either the hydraulic efficiency or aesthetic appearance they should be made so that they can be removed following installation, with any dressing requirement.Holes should be cleaned and free of any burrs To avoid damage and marking of the material, rollers used in the fabrication process shall be clean and free from pitting. Rollers should also be free of any ferrous material that would cause staining, marking and/or damage of the material.The aforementioned requirements for rollers shall also apply when curved shapes are formed using a brake press or similar equipment. The sub-contractor shall also take all necessary steps to ensure that such methods form a uniform curve with a smooth transitional surface and clean appearance.The sub-contractor shall ensure that the surfaces of the Company’s products are free from any misalignment.The sub-contractor shall ensure that during lifting the fabrication is not damaged or pulled out of shape in any way.
