Four general steps comprise mapping the design variables to attributes. First, a matrix is drawn with the elicited attributes as columns and the proposed design variables as rows (or vice versa).Second, estimates regarding the strength of the relationship between the design variables and attributes are made in the intersecting cells. Typically, a non-linear scale is used: 0 (no impact), 1 (low impact), 3 (medium impact), and 9 (strong impact).
