This conditionwas considered to be one reason why the onset of the martensitic transformation was late in γ -(111) grains. However,these results are not discussed in relation to the lack of astrain-induced mechanism during tensile loading becausethe plastic strain in γ is not easily evaluated. The martensitictransformation in these three steels during tensile loadingmight be due to the strain-induced and/or the stress-assistedmechanisms; however, we confirmed in the present studythat the occurrence of martensitic transformation should becontrolled by shear stresses.
