To test the thermal stability of 1 and 2, we performed the thermogravimetric analysis (Fig. 3). 1 shows three weight loss steps. The first, corresponding to the escape of an aqua ligand, is observed from 100 to 200 °C (obsd. 3.10%, calcd. 2.99%). The second, corresponding to the escape of half a 1,4-bib ligand, from 250 to 350 °C (obsd. 18.05%, calcd. 17.50%). The weight loss step occurred above 350 °C corresponding to the partial decomposition of the framework. Complex 1 has thermal stability as no strictly clean weight loss step occurs below 400 °C. The compound begins to decompose when the temperature is raised to 250 °C. Finally, complexes 1 and 2 are completely degraded into NiO.
