to 1845. Velma's husband and his brother even
built a bell tower to place the bell from a nearby
school that was destroyed in a flood. Over the
years, many happy children have had the chance
to ring the bell and hear the ringing of the bell.
Nowadays Velma gives tours to local school-
children and local young people, because they
want to learn what it was like to attend: school
back in the good old days. She has kids ring the
school bell and sing“Good Morning to You”as
they might have done in days going by. Then, she
tells the history of the school and shows how. to
use the old gramophone. Both Velma and the
Englewood School bave seen many students
come and go through-the years.
