If 1 or 2 sensitive axes of the accelerometers are sufficient, their spatial arrangement must be carefully observed. In the first case, the axis should be oriented horizontally, if small magnitudes of tilt angles are to be detected with higher sensitivity. On the contrary, when higher sensitivity is to be obtained for larger magnitudes of tilt angles (>45o), it should be oriented vertically. In the second case, two basic options are possible. While performing a single-axis tilt measurement, one sensitive axis should be vertical and the other horizontal, whereas both sensitive axes should be horizontal when a dual-axis tilt measurement is to be performed.
