This paper has described the developments of industrialrobots made in their practical technologies for factory au-tomation and warehouse automation since the 2000s. Italso has described pattern recognition as a core technol-ogy by referring to the classic feature-based approachesand to the latest deep-learning-based approaches. It hasgiven an overview of the latest studies on visual-tactilesensors and machine learning by physical simulators.Whereas sensor-centered technological developmentsbloomed in the 2000s as described in Section 2, machinelearning technological developments are about to bloomas planned in the 2010s. The author of this paper ex-pects that technological developments for actuators, start-ing with grippers equipped with a visual-tactile sensor, will bloom in the 2020s.Spiral growths of developments in all the stages ofsense-plan-action will lead to further developments of in-dustrial robot applications and markets. The author of thispaper earnestly encourages young readers to aim at devel-oping innovative technologies for actuators and in clos-ing, wishes that the future research and developments ofindustrial robots and for their manipulation will yield sig-nificant results.
