The whole complex relation of unresting man to the earthis the subject matter of anthropo-geography. The sciencetraces his movements on the earth's surface, measures theirvelocity, range, and recurrence, determines their nature bythe way they utilize the land, notes their transformationat different stages of economic development and under different environments. Just as an understanding of animal andplant geography requires a previous knowledge of the variousmeans of dispersal, active and passive, possessed by these lowerforms of life, so anthropo-geography must start with a studyof the movements of mankind.
